PLMR Midlands: What we achieved in 2021

2021 was a fast-paced year for PLMR in the Midlands. Our team has supported some of the region’s most innovative and exciting projects, as we continue our mission to help drive growth in our region and deliver industry-leading communications strategies for our clients.

Our highlights include major project wins, new joiners, and exciting initiatives – and we’ve picked out a handful of our best to mark the New Year. As we embark on 2022, we hope the next 12 months can be as exciting and productive as the last.

We supported projects worth more than £4bn to the West Midlands’ economy

Our team takes great pride in delivering work which has a direct impact on the regional economy. In 2021 we delivered communications strategies for projects totalling more than £4bn in economic value. This includes West Midlands Gigafactory, University of Warwick, West Midlands Combined Authority, Lidl, Spitfire Homes, and others.

Our team grew with two new hires

2021 was a bumper year for new clients and projects so we were pleased to add two new faces to our team in the Midlands. Brett Waldron and Elliot Hawkes joined us early in the year and hit the ground running supporting clients across all our sectors and services.

PLMR came together with Advent Communications

In October 2021, PLMR acquired Advent Communications – based in Coventry – to form one of the largest communications agencies in the Midlands. Already, we are working together on joint projects and new business wins as we expand what we can offer to clients. This includes public relations, public affairs, stakeholder engagement, and digital communications.

We did more work than ever on sustainability

Sustainability became a watch word in 2021 and it was no different for us at PLMR. We worked closely with the University of Warwick to help develop its communications in the run up to COP26. We also worked on several sustainability-led projects, including delivering planning communications for solar farms in Derbyshire and an Eco Park in Warwickshire.

We supported the launch of Help to Own in Wolverhampton

Working closely with the Help to Own team, we supported the launch of the innovative scheme in Wolverhampton. Help to Own allows you to rent your home, and eventually buy it for £1 – the scheme is backed by Wolverhampton City Council, the West Midlands Combined Authority, and Andy Street. PLMR used Facebook advertising to market the new scheme and attract people to the website to sign up.

Our team got together physically again

During the summer of 2021, with social distancing restrictions lifted, our team ventured back into our Birmingham office for the first time together. We were even able to hold our annual company away day for this first time during the pandemic. Colleagues were able to get together, share ideas, and take part in business planning exercises.
